We build the website builder we wanted as freelancers

Mason started in 2022 in a spare room in Portland, Oregon, after its founders had built about 200 sites for local businesses on other tools.

Why it exists

Why it exists

Nora Lindqvist and Sam Okafor ran a two-person web studio for six years. Their clients were bakeries, architects, yoga studios and bike shops. Every site needed a layout that held up on a phone, a list the owner could update, a form, and a domain.

They used a design tool for the layout, a builder for the site, a form service, a CMS and a host. Five bills, five logins, and every client call started with the same question: which one broke?

Mason is that stack as one product, priced per site so a freelancer can bring a client in without paying for a seat. Today 14 people work on it and 9,400 sites are live on it.
